Image
Global President, Ogoni Youths Development Initiative. Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar  The Ogoni Youth Development Initiative (OYDI) has frowned at comments credited to the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) on the amount of losses the Federal Government has incurred due to the none operationalization of the oil facilities in OML 11 housing Ogoni oil blocs. Recall that PINL which is a surveillance company incharge of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) made the comment during a meeting with stakeholders from pipeline host communities in Rivers State. The company has claimed that the Federal Government was loading about $226bn United States Dollars annually due to the shutting down of the wells. Reacting to the comments, Comrade  Imeabe Saviour Oscar, Global President of Ogoni Youths Development Initiative said the comment by the company was unfortunate, saying the company seems to be only interested in the oil and revenue from Ogoniland and not the welfare of the p...

Rivers State: Seizing the Mantle of Energy Sovereignty

Image
Dr Chris Barigbon  Power: The Primal Catalyst of Progress Electricity is not a mere convenience; it is the very lifeblood of economic prosperity, industrial ingenuity, and societal advancement. Yet, decades of mismanagement, bureaucratic lethargy, and mutual recrimination have left Nigeria’s power sector in a perennial state of dysfunction.  Why, then, should Rivers State remain tethered to this cycle of dependency? A Historic Window of Opportunity: The Federal Government has, at last, fully liberalised the power sector, granting states and private actors the unassailable right to generate, distribute, and retail electricity independently. Moreover, the injection of N3.3 trillion to clear outstanding gas debts now dismantles a longstanding operational bottleneck.  These are not mere policy gestures—they are clarion calls for action. Lessons from Neighbours, Action Over Excuses: Consider Abia State: Umuahia now enjoys reliab...

Image
President General,, Ogoni oil and gas host communities youth Association, Comrade Teddy Gianen at a function  The Ogoni Oil and Gas Host Communities Youths Association hereby lends its support to the ongoing agitation across the Niger Delta for the decentralization of pipeline surveillance contracts to host communities along pipeline routes. Host communities remain the most effective custodians of pipeline infrastructure. Ogoni host, critical national assets such as the 24-inch and 28-inch Trans-Niger Delta pipelines, the 30-inch crude delivery line operated by Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited / PPMC, and one of the largest manifolds in West Africa, the Bomu Manifold located in K-Dere are situated within Ogoniland. This clearly underscores the strategic importance of Ogoniland in Nigeria’s oil and gas operations. Pipeline surveillance contracts should not be used as tools for political patronage or selective reward. Rather, they must be structured as community driv...
