National para festival : Rivers Para athletes protest over lack of funds

Para and special athletes in Rivers State have staged a peaceful protest to Government House in Portharcourt over the delay by the state ministry of sports to disburse funds that will enable them compete at the para sports festival in Abuja.
Leading the protesters to Government House , Rivers State shooting coach Mrs Mary Kpamezie told Journalists during the protest that the Para athletes are expected to travel to Abuja in three days time to participate in the para festival but are stranded in Portharcourt owing to the non availability of funds
Mrs Kpamezie called on Governor Similaiyi Fubara to come to the aid of the para-athletes and provide them with funds that will enable them participate in the para-festival slated for Abuja .
According to her , the para athletes have been preparing for the third national para festival that will commence on the 26th of March to the 4th of April and up till now ,they are yet to hear from the state government.
The state sports council has already gone to Abuja to register all the para athletes that will participate in the national para-festival "She said
The Rivers State shooting coach Mrs Marry Kpamezie said at the moment she is not sure if the athletes will participate in para festival as their fate is hanging in the balance due to lack of funds, adding that the state government should immediately swing into action and disburse funds for their participation in the event.
Meanwhile addressing the protesters at the Government House gate , permanent secretary ministry of sports Emma Ndah said though he has sent in a memo to the governor pertaining to the participation of the para athletes at the national para-festival but the governor hasn't been able to look at it due to his busy schedules.
Emma Ndah assured the protesters that he will book an appointment with governor Similaiyi Fubara and inform him on the need for para athletes to participate in the games.
