German Researcher laments state of Ogoni environment as University of Portharcourt center for peace and Security studies hails late human right icon Ken saro wiwa

A senior researcher from the University of Bonn in  Germany DR Benjamin  Etzold is lamenting the state of environmental degradation in Ogoniland 

DR Benjamin Etzold came out with this when he paid a visit to the ken saro wiwa memorial Park at Bane , Khana LGA in collaboration with the center for peace and security studies, University of Portharcourt in a bid to get more information about the Ogoni struggle initiated by late Ken saro wiwa.


DR Benjamin Etzold noted that the food consumed by Ogoni people are poised owing to the pollution in the area .

He advised Ogonis to continue to demand for environmental justice and  connect with  other environmental movements at the international movement 



On her part, director  of the center for peace and security studies University of Portharcourt Professor Chioma  Onyige said the visit to the park was aimed at getting more information about the Ogoni struggle pioneered by late Ken saro wiwa and how it's Ogonis and the entire Niger delta region


Professor Chioma  Onyige appealed to Ogonis to always explore dialogue in resolving their dispute instead of resorting to violence which always lead to destruction 


Meanwhile, deputy director of Center for peace and security studies at University of Portharcourt  DR Gbenemene   Kpai asked other ethnic groups to borrow a leaf from the non violent struggle of Ogonis which earned them  international recognition
