MOSOP leader : Lazarus Tamana

The Movement for the survival of Ogoni People led by Lazarus Tamana has called on the federal government to set up a judicial review into  the circumstances surrounding the hanging of Late human rights icon Ken Saro wiwa and eight Ogoni martyrs hanged in 1995 under the cruel military junta of late General Sani Abacha

The MOSOP leader who was speaking at an event with the theme no to oil resumption in Ogoniland to mark the 30th anniversary of the execution of Ogoni martyrs said this becomes very necessary to put an end to the lingering misunderstanding between families of Ogoni thirteen.

Lazarus Tamana, who is an international activist based in the United Kingdom also asked Hydrocarbon pollution remediation project to carry out the Ogoni clean up in line with the recommendation of  the UNEP report.

He however pointed out that the execution of the Ogoni nine by the military junta in 1995 was widely condemned by the international community, adding that the Ogonj fallen heroes were not giving a fair trial.

The seasoned activist described the occasion of November 10 as a moment of reckoning in view of the supreme sacrifice paid by the Ogoni nine and resilient by Ogoni people to demand for environmental justice for their land

He said Ogonis should be steadfast to resist any moves to resume oil production in Ogoniland as  HYPREP hasn't fully carried out the Clean up according to the Recommendation by UNEP report.

He said the legacies of Ken Saro wiwa and Ogoni nine lives on as the purpose for which they died for has reawakened the consciousness of oil producing communities in the Niger Delta who are demanding for accountability from oil Multinational firms to clean up the pollution unleashed on the environment due to their operations.
