2026 world cup play offs final: Eagles to Square up against DR Congo

 















The Super eagles of Nigeria will file out against DR Congo on Sunday in the finals of the 2026 world cup play offs


This followed their 4-1 resounding victory over Gabon in the first semi finals of the 2026 world cup play offs at Rabat Morocco.


The Eric Chelle from the blast of the whistle, went into the game creating several scoring chances in the first half with Akor Adams having a one on one situation with the Gabonese  goal keeper but his effort was parried away by the Panthers goalie  Loyce Mbaba for a clearance 


On resumption of play the Gabon side saw their penalty appeal ruled out by the video assistant referee after Nigeria defender Osaye Samuel dragged the  shirt of a Gabonese player in the eagles essentially area , leaving their fans in disappointment 


However Nigeria grabbed the lead on the 78th of play when Akor Adams capitalized on a defensive blunder and struck home his second goal for the super eagles of Nigeria to throw the Nigeria fans wide on excitement.


Gabon goat the equalizer through a reflected shot by Mario Lemina barely a minute to 90minutes regulation time to restore parity in the pulsating encounter 


Super eagles striker Victor  Oshimen missed two sitters on the troth in the twelve minutes added time when his shots when his shots went off target especially the sitter he missed on the stroke of regulation time 


Going into   the thirty minutes extra time  Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria lead when smashed home from the edge of the Gabonese 18 yard box off a clinical pass from Wilfred Ndidi to make the score line 2-1

Super eagles talismanic striker Victor Oshimen who missed several scoring chances redeemed his image with a superb strike  to increase the tally to three following a brilliant pass from Benjamin Frederick, before outplaying four defenders marking him off a long ball to struck in the fourth that earned Nigeria a 4-1 resounding victory over Gabon


The super eagles will next play Dr Congo who had defeated Cameroon by lone goal.
