Governor Fubara promises to reward athletes and coaches
Rivers state coaches at Government House in PH
Scores of jubilant athletes and officials of Rivers state thronged the Rivers state government House to express their excitement over the return of the executive governor of the state.
The athletes and officials who walked through the streets of Portharcourt, converged at the gates of the brick house in solidarity with his excellency, governor Siminialayi Fubara who recently resumed office at the expiration of the emergency rule.
Speaking during the visit, Rivers state basketball coach ,Tekena Okungba said, the visit was aimed at celebrating the successful return of the governor and commend him for prioritizing the welfare of athletes in the state.
"This is not about the award it is a solidarity visit to welcome the governor back so we used the opportunity to meet him face to face to discuss with him. You see everybody's spirit is high since the governor has spoken".
Coach Tekena revealed that governor Fubara directed that a fresh proposal be prepared and sent to him for the payment of coaches, athletes, secretaries, and sundry staff who participated at the gateway games.
" We met the governor one one one and we explained why we are here. and the governor instructed that they should do a fresh list directly to him so that he'll approve it immediately for the coaches and athletes and secretaries and others that are yet to be paid. That was the directive he gave to the DFA and Permanent secretary to bring a fresh proposal to his table immediately ".
On his part, Coach Fubara Oyanabo said they received assurances from the governor that their demands would be granted.
" He has promised that all our prayers are going to be heard, he has given a fresh order that a fresh list should be prepared and sent to him.
first we came to formally welcome him back to office then we are also asking for our awards be paid to the coaches, secretaries, sundry staff and some other athletes that had issues of account numbers, and today the governor has promised he is going to approve the payment".
