GOTEKA says no to oil production in Ogoniland

The Gokana, Tai, Eleme and Khana united landlords association of oil and gas facilities in Ogoniland has vowed to resist any moves by the federal government to resume oil production in the region
President of the Association Ben Harry in an interview with newsmen in Porthacourt blasted the Ogoni dialogue committee for excluding them in the discussion and negotiations pertaining the resumption of oil production in the Ogoni region.
He said the federal government and Shell must pay the backlog of royalties accruing from oil and gas production in the mid 50s, adding that until the wages are paid to them as bonafide landlords of oil and gas facilities, they will resist any company or federal government from drilling oil on their lands.
According to him, this oil we are talking about are people"s land and we will not fold our hands and allow the federal government and any company of their choice take our oil without doing the needful
Landlords have been subjected to untold hardship due to the refusal of the government to pay us our Royalties 'he said
Secretary of the organization also known as Goteka, Kenneth Toate lamented how Shell in Conievance with some greedy and selfish politicians took their lands from them without proper negotiation., saying that the Bonafide landlord are set to reclaim their stolen lands from their oppressors .
He called on the federal government and SPDC to immediately conduct verification and perimeter surveys to determine the real landlords of oil and gas facilities in Ogoniland
He said the move will provide the opportunity for all those laying claim to lands of oil and gas facilities to stand on their land and determine those who actually own the land as bonafide landlords
He added that the federal government should prepare fresh memorandum of understanding MOU with the bonafide landlords and give them a sense of belonging otherwise they will resist activities of oil production on their lands
