Eagles keeps world cup hope alive with 2-1 win Over Lesotho

The Super eagles of Nigeria boosted their chances of qualifying for the 2026 world cup slated for Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.

This followed their 2-1 win over Lesotho in South Africa on Friday evening

The Super eagles were awarded a penalty in the early minutes of the second half after a Lesotho player committed a handball and the referee wasted no time to point to the spot

And  in the resultant  penalty, Super eagles captain Williams Troost Ekong brilliantly converted  the spot kick give Nigeria the lead

Eagles pushed forward in quest of goals creating several scoring chances but were unlucky to  hit the back of the net as Victor Oshimen close range effort in Lesotho essential area struck the bar while Lesotho defender was able to defend a goal bound shot that has already beaten the goal keeper

However in the 80th minute, Akor Adams latched onto a clinical pass from Victor Oshimen off a counter attack and excellently shrugged off the challenge from a defender with a brilliant finish to make it two nil, sending the Nigeria fans wide on excitement.

Lesotho reduced the tally to two one after Super eagles goal keeper Stanley Nwabali made a nasty blunder by punching the ball to the ground and Kalake quickly volleyed home

The eagles were let off the hook when Eagles goalie made similar mistakes between him Semi Ajayi and Lesotho almost got the equalizer, leaving the bench in great shock on the stroke of regulation time as the team led by  Eric Chelle secured the maximum three points.

Nigeria will need to beat Benin Republic convincingly on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium to stand any chances of qualifying for the world cup

Benin Republic is topping the group c with 17points  after beating Rwanda by lone goal in Kigali while South Africa is second with 15 points following their goaless draw with Zimbawe.
