Usmane Dembele won the Balon dor for France and not his nation of origin, Mali.
But Africans are laying claim to his feat and success , that he is one of their own
No doubt, Usmane Dembele, the Paris saint German forward is a player of African decent like most his compatriots in the French national team otherwise called the les blues.
But had Dembele who is now the toast of world football born and raised in his country of Origin Mali, may be he wouldn't have been able to attain his full potential in the round leather game .
The poser now is ,why are most African countries not conducive for talents with great potential to excel in their area of endeavors without having a godfather at the corridors of power who pulls the strings for him or her to actualized their dream of playing football to greater heights
It's shocking and appalling that no African country has been able to win the world cup since the inception of the global soccer fiesta in 1966.
Despite the enormity of talented footballers on the continent, the least feat an African nation can boast of is a semi final finish by Morocco at the last world cup in Qatar.
George Oppong Weah of Liberia is the Only African player to have won the prestigious Balon dor award where he was unsalable in the year under review in 1995 to outperform every potential contender for the accolade.
This goes to show that Africa have the potentials to dominate world football and the Balon dor award but has fallen short of that due to the corruption of football administrators who are occupying the glass House for their personal and selfish financial gains to the detriment of football on the continent
The Nigeria domestic league is a case study where the better and talented players find it very difficult to break into clubs in the NPFL basically because there are no godfathers to pull the string for them .to get such opportunity
Hence it behoves on the administrators to give equal opportunity to everybody with the talents and potential to play football to the highest level
